Most answers are still generated by ChatDAD’s proudly small local Dad Engine. Very occasionally it borrows a larger language model through Netlify AI Gateway, then immediately goes back to being an SLM. There is no visitor login, popup or API key in the browser.

How it works
Mini ~1.5% · Pro ~2.5% · Reasoning ~4% · Deep Research ~7%. A request for a “proper answer” can also trigger it when the local Dad Engine cannot answer first. Cloud use is capped locally at three incidents per device per day and rate-limited server-side.

Most answers remain classic ChatDAD. Local ChatDAD behaviour always takes priority. If cloud AI is unavailable, the site simply falls back to Dad.
